Pentapodus nemurus, better known as the Banana Fish, is a reef fish with a finely elongated body, recognizable by its pearly white body adorned with two longitudinal copper-colored stripes. Its luminous appearance and graceful movements bring a beautiful visual dynamic to a community marine aquarium.
Native to the coastal areas of the Western Pacific, particularly in Indonesia and Papua, the Pentapodus nemurus swims in schools in sandy-bottomed areas or near reefs. Very peaceful, it integrates perfectly into a well-structured reef aquarium, where it can display its natural behavior.
This fish is very sociable and should be kept in small groups of 4 to 6 individuals to reduce stress and stimulate natural schooling behavior. It coexists easily with peaceful reef fish, invertebrates, and corals.
The Pentapodus nemurus primarily swims in open water, preferring open areas for its rapid movements. It rarely shows aggression, making it an excellent candidate for community aquariums.
