Chaetodermis penicilligerus – Prickly Filefish
The Chaetodermis penicilligerus, more commonly known as the prickly filefish, is an original and fascinating fish. With its compressed and bristly body adorned with skin filaments giving it a ruffled appearance, this specimen is a true chameleon of the reef. Its color, ranging from gray-green to brown, often marked with irregular patterns, allows it to blend perfectly into the rocky decor of the reef aquarium.
A Discreet and Peaceful Behavior
This fish exhibits a calm and observant behavior. It likes to settle near live rocks and move slowly between areas of shadow and light. Although it is peaceful, it can be curious and inspect invertebrates, especially small crustaceans. Therefore, it is not recommended to keep it with shrimp that are too small or shy.

Compatibility and Coexistence
The Chaetodermis penicilligerus can coexist with most peaceful reef fish. It is reef safe with caution: although it generally doesn't attack hard or soft corals, it may nibble on polyps or fragile invertebrates if food becomes scarce.
