Plectorhinchus diagrammus – Striped Sweetlips for Reef Aquarium

Plectorhinchus diagrammus, commonly known as the striped sweetlips, is an elegant and peaceful tropical fish, ideal for large volume reef aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, it is admired for its contrasting black horizontal stripes on a pearly white background and its mouth with bright yellow highlights.

This fish has an oval and elongated body, which can reach up to 30 cm in adulthood. It generally moves in groups in the wild but can be kept alone or in pairs in a sufficiently spacious aquarium.

Maintenance Conditions

  • Recommended minimum volume: 600 liters
  • Temperature: 24°C to 28°C
  • pH: 8.1 to 8.4
  • Decor: live rocks, numerous hiding spots, large swimming spaces
  • Water flow: moderate to strong

Behavior and Compatibility

Plectorhinchus diagrammus is a peaceful fish that coexists easily with other non-aggressive reef species. It is not recommended to keep it with very small fish that could be perceived as prey.

It can live alone, in pairs, or in small groups if the tank size allows. Providing a rocky decor and shaded areas is recommended to offer natural refuges.

Feeding

This omnivorous fish feeds readily on:

  • Frozen artemia and mysis
  • Mussel and shrimp flesh
  • Krill, plankton, small crustaceans
  • Protein-rich marine pellets and flakes

A varied diet promotes beautiful coloration and active behavior. It quickly accepts prepared food after a short acclimation period.

Why Choose Plectorhinchus diagrammus?

  • Elegant horizontal stripes and distinctive yellow mouth
  • Peaceful and sociable behavior
  • Easy to feed after acclimation
  • Perfect for large volume reef aquariums
  • A highly appreciated ornamental fish among aquarists

Plectorhinchus diagrammus will bring a touch of refined contrast to your marine aquarium. Its calm temperament, ease of care, and striped appearance make it an excellent choice for enthusiasts looking for a decorative and harmonious fish.
