The Pygocentrus nattereri is the specimen referred to as "Piranha" by most aquarists. The one we offer displays a stunning red throat and a silver color. With an average size of 30 cm, it is considered one of the most dangerous piranhas and can easily sever a finger. This is why its breeding must be done with full awareness, strictly adhering to safety guidelines. Originally from South America, the species now disrupts the freshwater of other tropical areas.
A Pygocentrus nattereri can live around ten years in good conditions. Gregarious by nature, it is preferable to have at least 8 to 10 individuals to keep it company. Water between 22° and 30° is ideal for this type of animal, as well as a pH between 5.5 and 7. The large volume of water needed and the potential danger of the species make it a relatively difficult fish to raise, not suitable for everyone.
