The Ancistrus is a freshwater fish that originates from South America, specifically from Brazil. The specimen we are highlighting is red and orange. Solitary by nature, it roams the waters near sandy bottoms and stones that it uses as hiding places. An omnivore with a calm temperament, it is nonetheless extremely territorial and does not hesitate to defend its living area. Clashes can occur with other species, even with conspecifics.
For its upkeep, the Ancistrus requires a water temperature close to 26°C and a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. A water volume of 120 L constitutes the minimum space suitable for it. This oviparous species lays eggs on hidden substrates and diligently protects its spawn. Despite this, its reproduction remains easy in an aquarium or pond.
