The Panaqolus maccus is a freshwater fish native to South America, found in the waters of Peru and Venezuela. This specimen is a bottom-dwelling fish that measures between 8 and 10 cm when fully grown and prefers to live in small groups of 2 to 3 individuals in aquariums larger than 120L. Its shape is almost similar to that of its cousin, the Panaque nigrolineatus. It can be distinguished by its lighter color and yellow or orange vertical stripes.
Easy to maintain, it is an ideal fish for beginners in aquaristics. To raise it, the aquarium water should be kept between 23° and 28° with a pH between 6.8 and 7.6. Reproduction is possible but quite complicated to achieve successfully. For breeding this fish, it is essential to promote a very strong current and a decrease in temperature to best replicate the rainy season.
