Often called the "knife fish," the Apteronotus albifrons is a specimen from South America found in the Amazon and Orinoco. Measuring an average of 38 cm, it can still reach up to 50 cm in length for the largest individuals. Its lifespan is estimated to be around 10 years. Residing at mid-height in acidic waters, it inhabits its environment in small groups. Additionally, it likes environments scattered with sand and roots where it can take refuge.
When kept in an aquarium, the water volume suitable for this species should be at least 500 liters. A pH between 6 and 7 is ideal, while a temperature range of 23°C to 28°C is recommended. Note that a single individual can be introduced into a tank without necessarily needing company. Although it is rather peaceful in its natural habitat, territorial behavior may manifest in captivity. Therefore, its maintenance is not complex, but some knowledge and information are essential.
