The majority of bottom-dwelling fish consume these tablets, while some free-swimming species quickly learn to identify them by smell. Large fish consume them in one go, while smaller ones nibble them progressively.

For species with specific needs, the JBL PRONOVO Species Special concept allows precise adaptation of the diet. Some carnivorous-inclined Loricariidae species prefer animal-based food rather than plant-based, unlike other mostly herbivorous species.
