Pterosynchiropus moyeri is a fish from the Callionymidae family, a close cousin of the famous mandarin fish. Its elongated and slender body is adorned with subtle patterns and a coloration that often varies depending on sex and individual, blending bluish, greenish, or brownish hues depending on the light and its stress levels.
The Pterosynchiropus moyeri is a calm, discreet fish that spends most of its time foraging for small prey on live rocks and sand. It is completely harmless to other species and remains peaceful even in the presence of more active fish. It is an ideal fish for balanced reef tanks, especially those with a rich natural microfauna.
This dragonet primarily feeds on microfauna: copepods, small crustaceans, worms, fish eggs... In captivity, it may accept enriched brine shrimp, mysis, lobster eggs, or frozen plankton. It is advisable not to keep it in a sterile or too-new aquarium (less than 6 months old), as a well-established microfauna population is essential for its survival.
The Pterosynchiropus moyeri is compatible with the vast majority of invertebrates and reef fish. However, it is not recommended to pair it with other dragonets of the same genus unless in a very large volume or as a formed couple. It may go unnoticed at first, but quickly becomes a valuable and appreciated presence in the tank's ecosystem.
Pterosynchiropus moyeri is a wise choice for aquarists looking to populate their aquarium with a useful, calm, and original fish, while promoting a healthy and balanced ecosystem.
