Tubastrea - Size M
An LPS coral with vibrant flowers
The Tubastrea is a unique LPS coral known for its beauty and behavior. Unlike most reef corals, it is non-photosynthetic: its colorful polyps – yellow, bright orange, or red – open widely to capture food from the current, offering a permanent bloom in the aquarium.
Ideal for shaded areas of the tank
This Tubastrea size M is perfect for the dark or dimly lit areas of the reef: under overhangs, in caves, or low areas. It makes use of these often overlooked spaces, illuminating them with its vivid and warm colors.
A coral that requires regular feeding
Lacking zooxanthellae, the Tubastrea needs a direct food supply to survive and thrive. It enjoys targeted feedings with plankton, brine shrimp, or gel foods. When fed regularly, it opens its polyps daily, offering a lively and colorful display.
Lighting and water flow
Low to moderate lighting is sufficient, and even recommended. Moderate water flow will help carry food to the polyps without disrupting their opening.

The Tubastrea prefers stable and well-nourished water:
- Temperature: 24–26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 420–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrates: 5–15 mg/L
- Phosphates: 0.05–0.1 mg/L
