This soft coral is encrusting and spreads over rocks. To feed, it uses its polyps. It is very easy to maintain and to propagate by cutting it. It reproduces thanks to its stolons that embed themselves in the rock. It needs medium to strong lighting and medium water flow.

Ideal soft coral for beginners in reef aquariums.

Pachyclavularia viridis - Long Polyps

A luminous and undulating soft coral

The Pachyclavularia viridis with long polyps is a crusting soft coral highly appreciated for its elongated fluorescent green polyps that constantly dance in the current. It forms a soft and undulating carpet that instantly transforms a bare rock or platform into a vibrant and luminous area.

An active behavior and strong presence

Thanks to its very mobile and well-spaced polyps, this variety offers a constant natural movement, visible even from afar. It brings life to all low or intermediate areas of the reef while being non-aggressive towards its neighbors.

Easy to maintain and propagate

Perfect for both beginner and experienced aquarists, this Pachyclavularia is photosynthetic thanks to its zooxanthellae, and thrives well without additional feeding. It is also very easy to propagate: a simple fragment on a flat support can create a new colony.

Lighting and water flow

Low to moderate lighting is sufficient to maintain its intense green color. Moderate water flow is recommended to promote the undulation of the polyps and prevent deposits between the tissues.

Water parameters

This Pachyclavularia viridis thrives in stable conditions:

  • Temperature: 24–26°C
  • Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
  • pH: 8.0–8.4
  • KH: 7–9 dKH
  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

A living carpet with strong visual impact

With its long fluorescent polyps and fluid behavior, the Pachyclavularia viridis is an excellent option for covering rocky areas and energizing the lower part of the reef. It pairs perfectly with other peaceful soft and LPS corals.

Add an undulating green layer to your decor

Easy, robust, and visually spectacular, the Pachyclavularia viridis with long polyps is an ideal coral for creating a natural, lively, and elegant effect in your marine aquarium.
