Briareum strechei
A luminous and dynamic encrusting soft coral
The Briareum strechei is a popular encrusting soft coral appreciated for its ease of maintenance and attractive visual appearance. It features a beige base covered with fluorescent green polyps that sway in the current, creating the illusion of a living, waving carpet. Ideal for both beginner and experienced reef enthusiasts.
A coral that spreads over rocks
This coral grows rapidly by covering rocky surfaces. Its encrusting growth makes it an excellent choice for dressing bare areas or stabilizing décor. It can be placed at the bottom or sides of the aquarium, depending on the desired effect.
Natural feeding through its polyps
The Briareum strechei feeds through its capturing polyps that absorb suspended particles in the water. It doesn't require additional feeding but will benefit from a well-balanced and slightly nutrient-rich water column.
Lighting and water flow
This coral prefers low to moderate lighting, making it perfect for lower or slightly shaded areas of the tank. A moderate water flow will promote polyp extension and limit sediment accumulation.
Water parameters
The Briareum strechei is not demanding but will appreciate stable and balanced water:
- Temperature: 24–26 °C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0–8.4
- KH: 7–9 dKH
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
- Nitrates: 2–10 mg/L
- Phosphates: 0.02–0.08 mg/L
Very easy to propagate
The Briareum strechei is also one of the easiest corals to multiply. Simply take a tissue fragment with a clean cutter, then attach it to a new substrate using glue or a mesh. Its rapid acclimatization ability makes it an ideal species for exchanges among enthusiasts.
