The Canthigaster solandri, also known as the peacock pufferfish, is a species highly valued by aquarists for its brown body speckled with white spots and its curious and lively behavior. Thanks to its distinctive patterns, this pufferfish immediately catches the eye and quickly becomes a centerpiece in a fish-only aquarium.

Ideal Maintenance Conditions

This fish requires a minimum 400-liter aquarium to thrive. It is essential to provide it with a decor rich in hiding places and shaded areas to reduce its natural stress. Live rocks and complex structures allow it to feel protected and isolate itself at will.

The Canthigaster solandri prefers a water temperature between 24° and 28° with an ideal pH between 8 and 8.5. It is a hardy fish, but remains sensitive to poor water quality or improper acclimatization.

Behavior and Cohabitation

Territorial, it can be slightly aggressive towards its peers or other pufferfish. It is therefore recommended to keep only one Canthigaster solandri per aquarium, unless it is a very large volume. It coexists quite well with medium to large-sized fish but is incompatible with invertebrates, which it often considers as prey.

Specific Diet

The Canthigaster solandri needs to be fed three to four times a day with small amounts of varied food. This feeding schedule is essential to maintain its health, limit aggression, and prevent it from attacking the decor or tank mates.
