The Canthigaster valentini, also known as the saddleback pufferfish, is a unique marine species with a distinctive appearance. Its white body is dotted with black spots and adorned with four large black patches on its back, forming a characteristic saddle. Its head features stripes between the eyes, with yellow hues on the fins. It can grow up to 11 cm in adulthood.

Behavior and Characteristics

The Canthigaster valentini is a territorial fish, especially among same-sex conspecifics. It very rarely tolerates the presence of another Canthigaster in the same tank. It spends its days exploring, inspecting, and weaving between live rocks and decorations.

Although it is generally peaceful towards other species, it is not recommended to keep it with invertebrates or very small fish, which it might bother.

Maintenance Conditions

This saddleback pufferfish requires an aquarium of at least 200 liters, well-structured, with many hiding places and shaded areas. It particularly appreciates sandy bottoms and live rocks, perfect for its explorations.

Feeding and Health

An omnivore, the Canthigaster valentini should be fed three to four times a day with small varied amounts. Its diet also contributes to the natural wear of its teeth, which grow continuously.
