Cerianthus filiformis orange – Giant Tube Anemone

Cerianthus filiformis orange, nicknamed the giant tube anemone across the Atlantic, is a spectacular tube-dwelling worm distinguished by its vibrant orange and green plume. This deployed plume is used to capture prey suspended in the water, particularly zooplankton particles.

A tube-dwelling worm to install on a sandy substrate

This specimen lives buried in a flexible tube that it forms itself in the substrate. It is therefore essential to provide it with a sandy or soft substrate for it to attach securely. It also appreciates areas with low water movement, calm environments, and away from very invasive corals.

Behavior and diet

Although it is often mistaken for an anemone, Cerianthus filiformis orange is a worm. It is not stinging to fish but can capture small floating prey. To thrive, it is important to feed it 1 to 2 times a week with zooplankton, brine shrimp, or suspended micro-prey. It is harmless and can coexist with most reef species.

Important note upon delivery

Cerianthus may sometimes arrive out of their tube during transport. This phenomenon is natural and harmless: they will reform their tube within a few days once properly installed on a suitable sandy substrate.

Maintenance conditions

  • Recommended minimum volume: 50 liters
  • Substrate: fine sand or soft substrate is essential
  • Temperature: 24°C to 26°C
  • pH: 8.0 to 8.4
  • Water movement: low to moderate

Why choose Cerianthus filiformis orange?

  • Spectacular orange and green plume
  • Acts as a natural zooplankton trap
  • Easy to maintain on suitable substrate
  • Harmless to fish and corals
  • Reforms its tube within a few days if necessary

Cerianthus filiformis orange is a unique and colorful addition to any sandy-bottom reef aquarium. Its discreet behavior and graceful appearance make it a unique observation piece for marine biodiversity enthusiasts.
