Hymenocera elegans – Captive-Bred Harlequin Shrimp in France
Hymenocera elegans, also known as the harlequin shrimp, is one of the most fascinating shrimps in marine aquariums. With its white body adorned with pink and purple patterns, it offers a unique aesthetic in a reef aquarium. This version comes from a controlled French breeding, ensuring optimal acclimatization without wild collection.
A Very Specific Diet
This delicate crustacean is strictly specialized in consuming starfish. It refuses any other food, even common frozen or live foods. To ensure its well-being, it is imperative to regularly provide it with starfish (e.g., Linckia, Fromia, etc.).
Do not feed this shrimp with other invertebrates or food scraps. Without suitable prey, it will quickly deteriorate. Therefore, it is essential to ensure you have access to a stable source of live starfish.
Maintenance Conditions
- Minimum recommended volume: 100 liters
- Ideal temperature: 24°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Moderate water movement and rocky decor
- Calm area with recommended hiding spots
