Reef Builder increases carbonate alkalinity (KH) without an immediate impact on pH. With regular use, it helps naturally stabilize the pH around 8.3, the ideal value for reef aquariums.
Its formulation based on multiple carbonate sources prevents pH drops associated with products solely based on bicarbonate. Used according to recommendations, Reef Builder does not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium.
SEACHEM
Function: Increases carbonate alkalinity (KH).
Impact on pH: Minimal, gradual stabilization.
Formulation: Blend of carbonate sources.
Compatibility: Reef aquarium.
Ionic effect: Does not consume Ca, Mg, or Sr.
Can be used with Reef Buffer.
Alkalinity is a key parameter for the growth of corals and the chemical stability of the tank. It should ideally be maintained between 3 and 5 meq/L, or about 8 to 14 dKH, and never drop below 2 meq/L.
Reef Builder is recommended when the goal is to adjust KH without significantly altering the pH. If the pH is also too low, Reef Buffer will be more suitable.
50 g, 300 g, 600 g, 1.2 kg, 4 kg.
Dissolve 3 g (about half a level teaspoon) for 150 L of water, twice a week.
Dissolve in at least 250 ml of fresh water before adding.
Check alkalinity every two weeks and adjust the dose or frequency if necessary.
Measure alkalinity and adjust gradually until reaching 3 to 6 meq/L (8 to 17 dKH).
Each dose of 3 g for 150 L increases alkalinity by approximately 0.25 meq/L.
Do not exceed 12 g for 150 L per day.
After determining the actual consumption of the tank, a continuous drip system can be set up.
Calculation formula:
m = 0.08 × v × a
m = grams to add
v = volume of the tank in liters
a = desired increase in meq/L
Example: To increase alkalinity by 1 meq/L in a 200 L aquarium, add 16 g to the top-off water.
The ideal alkalinity in reef aquariums is between 3 and 6 meq/L.
Significant adjustments should be made slowly to avoid stress or shock to corals and invertebrates.
Always dissolve the product in fresh water before adding.
Excess alkalinity can lead to a loss of calcium, magnesium, and strontium.
Do not mix directly with calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplements. It is advisable to space out additions by at least 30 minutes or to alternate dosing days.
