Reef Advantage Calcium is an optimized blend of non-caustic ionic calcium, formulated to increase and maintain calcium at natural seawater concentrations. It provides an efficient and economical solution to support the growth of calcifying organisms in reef aquariums.

Main Features

Formulation and Ionic Balance

Reef Advantage Calcium contains magnesium and strontium in proportions adapted to typical usage rates, with a Ca:Mg:Sr ratio of 100:5:0.1. This formulation allows for maintaining these essential elements while effectively correcting calcium.

Unlike limewater, Reef Advantage Calcium does not have a caustic pH, does not deplete magnesium, and, when used as recommended, does not lead to excessive alkalinity consumption.

Role of Calcium in Reefs

Calcium is essential for the formation of calcareous skeletons in corals, coralline algae, and many invertebrates. A deficiency in calcium or carbonates leads to a halt in calcification, followed by a rapid degradation in the health of organisms.

Usage Instructions

Beginner Level

Dissolve 5 g of the product in at least 250 ml of fresh water, then add to the aquarium.

Use 5 g for 150 L of water, twice a week.

Check calcium every two weeks and adjust the amount or frequency if necessary.

Advanced Level

Measure calcium, then follow the addition schedule until reaching a concentration between 380 and 420 mg/L.

Each dose of 5 g per 150 L increases calcium by approximately 12 mg/L.

Do not exceed 10 g per 150 L per day.

Expert Level

After determining the calcium consumption rate, a continuous drip system can be implemented.

The amount to add in top-off water can be calculated using the following formula: m = v × c ÷ 400, where m corresponds to the grams to add, v to the aquarium volume in liters, and c to the desired increase in mg/L.

Important Considerations

The recommended calcium level is between 380 and 420 mg/L, with alkalinity between 3 and 6 meq/L.

Significant adjustments should be made gradually to avoid shocking corals and invertebrates.

Excess calcium can lead to increased carbonate alkalinity loss.

Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement. It is advisable to space additions by at least 30 minutes.

Differences Between Seachem Calcium Supplements

Reef Advantage Calcium and Reef Complete are ionic calcium supplements designed to quickly increase calcium levels, with the main difference being their powder or liquid form.

Reef Calcium is an organic supplement mainly intended to maintain existing calcium, while Reef Advantage Calcium is designed to correct a deficiency.
