Tropic Marin Phos-Start Starter Supplement for Reef Aquariums

Tropic Marin Phos-Start is based on the natural nutrient supply mechanisms observed in coral reefs. In the natural environment, the particulate and insoluble excretions of fish and plankton provide corals with phosphate and substances necessary for maintaining stable microbiology, sustained growth, and natural colors.

These biological principles have been applied to the development of Phos-Start to effectively support the start-up of reef aquariums.

Specially Designed for the Start-up Phase

Tropic Marin Phos-Start can be used for all types of marine aquariums, but it is particularly suitable for reef aquariums started with dry rocks, ceramic structures, artificial reefs, or bare-bottom tanks.

These configurations often present a low supply of organic nutrients and bacterial foods, limiting the growth of bacteria and coraline algae. Phos-Start compensates for this supply and promotes the gradual development of a biologically stable environment.

Targeted Supply of Particulate Nutrients

The aquarium microbiome is fed by particulate phosphate, bacterial foods, calcium, and trace elements in the form of fine insoluble particles. This form allows for a targeted supply of nutrients, without undesirable increases in concentrations in the water column.

During the development of the young aquarium, these particles are gradually filtered and used by the corals, promoting natural growth, a balanced skeletal structure, and vibrant colors, comparable to those observed in natural reefs.

Product Benefits

Phos-Start is intended for use during the first two to three months of the initial cycling phase and in young reef aquariums.

It contains natural marine biopolymers serving as bacterial foods, as well as calcium and trace elements promoting the growth of coraline algae.

Halogenated trace elements, such as fluoride and bromide, compensate for elements consumed by the increased growth of coraline algae and corals.

Studies show that insoluble particulate forms of these components are more effective for the growth, coloration, and maintenance of coraline algae and corals than soluble liquid forms.

Composition

Natural microparticles of calcium carbonate, powdered phosphate minerals, natural biopolymers, iodide, fluoride, and bromide.

Application

Phos-Start can be added at any time of the day. The application is preferably done when the lighting is off, to take advantage of the nocturnal opening of coral polyps. A slight temporary water turbidity is normal and quickly disappears.

Fill a container with about 200 ml of reef aquarium water. The use of reverse osmosis water is not suitable. Add the calculated amount of Phos-Start, mix thoroughly, and pour the suspension into a high-flow area. Then rinse the container with aquarium water.

Recommended Dosage

Start with a daily dosage of 1 ml for 400 L of aquarium water.

If, after four weeks, the phosphate concentration between 0.05 ppm and 0.15 ppm is not reached, increase the dosage to 2 ml for 400 L.

The maximum recommended dosage is 4 ml for 400 L.

Remarks

A temporary increase in algae growth during the start-up phase is normal. A slight initial brownish discoloration of the corals may also appear and corresponds to the desired nutrient regulation.
