Seachem Zeolite is a highly porous natural mineral designed for the treatment of ammonia and heavy metals in marine and freshwater aquariums. Its action is based on an ion exchange mechanism allowing for rapid and efficient adsorption of undesirable compounds.
Type of media: high-porosity natural zeolite.
Use: marine and freshwater aquarium.
Targeted action: ammonia and metallic ions.
Format: 100 ml.
The Seachem zeolite has one of the highest ammonia binding capacities among available zeolites. It can eliminate up to 0.5 mg/L of ammonia when the recommended amount is used. Ammonia levels typically drop to zero within 24 to 48 hours depending on the aquarium's biological load.
In marine aquariums, this media does not deplete dissolved calcium. In freshwater, it does not increase general hardness when the ionic strength remains low.
| Aquarium Volume | Amount of Zeolite |
|---|---|
| 200 L | 250 ml |
| 4 L | 5 ml |
Rinse the zeolite before use. Place the media in a high-flow area to maximize water passage through the material, without allowing the grains to collide excessively.
The zeolite can be installed in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or trickle filter. The use of a filter bag is recommended to facilitate handling and replacement.
For heavy metal removal, leave the zeolite in place and replace the media every month. For one-time ammonia control, the media can be removed once levels are stabilized and replaced with activated carbon.
For long-term biological management of ammonia, the use of bacterial supports and live bacteria is recommended as a complement.
Product intended for aquaristic use. Regular monitoring of water parameters is recommended when using adsorbent media.
