Salarias ramosus, also known as the starry blenny, is a robust marine fish, ideal for reef aquariums. Its brown body is adorned with numerous pearly spots that give it a unique and elegant appearance. This discreet fish spends most of its time moving from rock to rock in search of algae to graze on.
Thanks to its diet mainly composed of algae, the Salarias ramosus plays an active role in the natural cleaning of the aquarium. It is particularly effective at controlling algae growth on live rocks, substrate, and decor, without disturbing other tank inhabitants.
This fish with a peaceful temperament is often ignored by other species and does not provoke any quarrels. However, it is territorial towards its own kind and should not be kept with other Salarias in a small volume. It can be kept alone or in groups if the tank is sufficiently large and well-structured.
A natural algae eater, the Salarias ramosus primarily feeds on the algae present in the aquarium. It is advisable to supplement its diet with nori sheets, vegetable pellets, or spirulina-based dry food, especially in tanks that are too new or too clean.
The Salarias ramosus is a valuable ally for all aquarists wishing to naturally limit algae growth while adding an original and peaceful fish to their reef tank.
