Mithrax sculptus – Algae-eating Valonia Crab
The Mithrax sculptus, commonly known as the algae-eating crab, is essential in the natural fight against Valonia sp. bubble algae. This crab, native to the Caribbean, is recognized for its effectiveness, especially when introduced in sufficient numbers in a reef aquarium.
A Formidable Nocturnal Cleaner
Primarily active at night, the Mithrax sculptus sneaks between live rocks in search of algae to consume. It particularly targets Valonia, helping to regulate their proliferation without resorting to chemical treatments.
Caution, though: if their number is insufficient, the Valonia can grow more rapidly than what the crabs can consume. In case of high presence, we recommend 2 Mithrax sculptus for 100 liters.
Fighting Valonia
Both the green and red species are effective against Valonia, but the Mithrax sculptus crab (green) is often recommended for its slightly superior ability to control these algae.
A Rigorous Selection
Our Mithrax sculptus come exclusively from a reputable Caribbean exporter. This meticulous selection ensures the effectiveness of our specimens, unlike some fake Mithrax crabs that have no effect on Valonia in marine aquariums.
They travel in groups of up to 10 individuals per bag. It's common for a crab to arrive without a claw due to group life: this does not hinder its feeding, as the claw naturally regrows after a few molts.

Sympa à observé
Assez sympa à observé, il a élu domicile dans un Stylophora, il mange les algues aux alentours. Le terme raffole des Valonia est peut être un peu fort pour le mien, il marche dessus sans y prêter attention. Débarrasse très bien les autres algues cela dit.

Je viens de commander un nitrax reçus en parfaite état ayant préciser la taille de mon bac étant un débutant dans l’aquariophilie marine je suis ravis d’avoir ce tout petit crabe dans mon bac merci je pense qu’il est nécessaire de resseigner le volume du bac pour la taille moi il est tout petit ceux que je voulais parfait

Crabe émeraude
Arrivé en excellente santé. A peine mis dans l'aquarium qu'il a déjà commencé à se nourrir des algues. Il est efficace mais très discret et plutôt nocturne.
