Percnon gibbesi is a notable reef crab with a very flat body and red to brown coloration, sometimes marbled with fine green lines. Native to the Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands, it closely resembles its Caribbean cousin Percnon planissimum.
Not very shy, this crab is active day and night and is an excellent algae eater. It cleans rocks, decorations, and tank glass, naturally helping to control undesirable algae. It is perfectly suited for a reef aquarium.
In case of danger or to rest, it likes to hide in live rocks and rocky cavities. It poses no threat to corals or most peaceful invertebrates.
It may happen that the Percnon gibbesi is missing a claw or leg upon receipt. This is absolutely not harmful, as these limbs naturally regrow after a few molts.
Percnon gibbesi is an excellent natural solution for combating algae in your reef tank. In addition to being aesthetic, it is effective, autonomous, and contributes to the stability of your marine ecosystem.
