The AR 2000 reactor is a high-performance equipment designed for the natural reduction of nutrients in your marine aquarium. It operates through bioremediation, promoting the controlled growth of beneficial algae like Chaetomorpha sp.. With full-spectrum LED lighting and a reflective body, it ensures uniform and efficient biomass growth without resorting to chemical additives.
The reactor measures 21 x 21 x 55 cm, with a diameter of 16 cm. It is compatible with a pump with a minimum flow rate of 2000 liters per hour, such as the DCP 2500 (not included), and requires inlet and outlet hoses as well as an initial algae source. It can be installed internally or externally to the sump.
The lighting is provided by two full-spectrum LED bars, placed in a central tube, ensuring even light distribution. This system is optimized with a reflective film integrated into the reactor body. A light dimmer allows for gradual adjustment of the light to favor algae acclimatization and growth without the development of undesirable organisms.
The protective caps must remain in place to prevent moisture infiltration into the LEDs. Maintenance should be done with a soft sponge to avoid scratching the light tube.
The AR 2000 reactor is specially designed for the cultivation of the filamentous algae Chaetomorpha sp., ideal for capturing excess nutrients. When first starting up, it is recommended to:
• Run the reactor for 48 hours without algae or light, with a flow rate of 1000 L/h
• Introduce an algae ball at least the size of a fist
• Adjust the flow so that the algae rotates slowly and regularly around the light tube
• Start the lighting at low intensity, then gradually increase over 1 to 2 weeks
If the algae pales or undesirable organisms appear (cyanobacteria, diatoms), it is advisable to reduce the light intensity and increase the flow rate.
| Parameter | Recommended Range | Optimal Value |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | 15 – 30 °C | 30 °C |
| Salinity | 20 – 45 ppt | 25 ppt |
| Nitrate | 20 – 100 mg/L | 50 mg/L |
| Phosphate | 0.5 – 5 mg/L | 3 mg/L |
| Brightness | 300 – 7000 lux | 4000 lux |
Connect the water inlet to the central tube of the reactor. Use a PVC pipe or thick silicone hose and secure it firmly with a clamp or cable tie. The water outlet should return to the sump without being re-aspirated. Also, ensure that the LEDs are never in contact with water.
The AR 2000 reactor is designed for safe use, with precautions against moisture and strict installation recommendations. It is suitable only for aquarium use, in a frost-free environment and protected from direct water splashes. Installing a drip-proof device on the cables is also recommended.
The AR 2000 reactor represents an ecological alternative to chemical methods of nutrient reduction, such as adsorbers or the vodka method. It allows for maintaining healthy and stable water, while promoting balanced microfauna development through the use of living algae.
