DKI 1,3 ß-glucan is a functional supplement developed by Easy Reefs, enriched with the microalgae Phaeodactylum tricornutum. It is part of an advanced nutrition program aimed at strengthening the natural immune mechanisms of fish in marine aquariums.
Form: granulation Ø 0.8 mm ensuring homogeneous diffusion.
Net weight: 50 g.
Active ingredient: 1,3 ß-glucans with ß-(1,6) branches.
Biological origin: diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum.
Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a diatom known for its richness in naturally occurring bioactive molecules. It notably contains omega-3 fatty acid EPA, the carotenoid pigment fucoxanthin, as well as chrysolaminarin.
Chrysolaminarin is a water-soluble polysaccharide composed of glucose monomers linked primarily by ß-(1,3) bonds, with limited ß-(1,6) branching. This structure is the basis for the well-documented immunostimulant properties of ß-glucans in fish.
Diets enriched with Phaeodactylum tricornutum have shown several beneficial effects on the immune system of fish, including:
An increase in the hemolytic activity of the complement.
Stimulation of phagocytic activity and respiratory activity of head kidney leukocytes.
An increase in serum IgM levels, representing the main adaptive humoral response in fish.
An increase in the expression of IL-8, a pro-inflammatory cytokine involved in host defense mechanisms in response to bacterial invasions, in synergy with IL-1 and TNFα.
Extracts enriched with chrysolaminarin have also demonstrated the ability to stimulate the expression of chaperone proteins such as hsp90aa and antimicrobial peptides like hamp1, modulating the NF-κB pathway and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in macrophages.
They also play a role in modulating key immune genes, including c-type lectin glucan receptors, interferon-related factors irf3 and irf7, TNFα, chemokine cxc10, g-type lysozyme, cd4, and IL-1β, contributing to an overall immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effect.
Finally, an effect on the intestinal microbiome has been observed, with a reduction in bacteria of the Vibrio genus.
