High-Intensity Lenses Ecotech Marine Radion XR15 G5/G6

The Ecotech Marine high-intensity lens kit is designed for Radion XR15 LED fixtures of the G5 and G6 generations. It focuses more of the light output to increase the intensity available beneath the fixture and improve light penetration in the aquarium.

Radion XR15 fixtures come standard with wide-angle HEI optics. These standard lenses are designed to maximize light coverage while ensuring balanced, even spectral mixing. The High Intensity Narrow Angle kit offers a narrower beam angle to prioritize light intensity.

An approximate 80° beam angle

The Ecotech Marine high-intensity lenses produce a beam of approximately 80°, compared with about 120° for the standard optics installed on the Radion XR15.

Reducing the beam angle makes it possible to concentrate more light on a defined area. This setup increases maximum intensity while reducing the overall coverage area.

Up to 65% additional maximum intensity

The Narrow Angle lenses can provide up to 65% additional maximum intensity compared with the standard lenses. This improvement mainly affects the central area beneath the fixture.

The actual gain depends in particular on the installation height of the Radion XR15, the aquarium depth, the aquascape layout, and the area the user wants to illuminate.

Better light penetration in the aquarium

Thanks to their narrower beam, the high-intensity lenses direct more light toward the bottom of the aquarium. They can be especially suitable for deep aquariums or setups requiring higher PAR values.

This light concentration can also be useful when the Radion XR15 fixture is installed at a significant height above the aquarium. The 80° beam then helps limit light spill outside the useful area.

A solution suited to installations requiring less coverage

The Ecotech Marine high-intensity lens kit can improve lighting efficiency when the very wide coverage provided by the standard optics is not necessary.

It allows the Radion XR15 G5 or G6 to be more precisely adapted to a specific area of the aquarium, a centralized aquascape, or a setup made up of multiple fixtures.

Difference between standard lenses and Narrow Angle lenses

The HEI Wide Angle optics installed as standard on the Radion XR15 are designed to provide broad light coverage and even mixing of the different spectral colors.

The Narrow Angle high-intensity lenses reduce this coverage in order to concentrate more light. They therefore make it possible to achieve higher maximum intensity over a smaller area.

Installation advice

Before installing the high-intensity lenses on a Radion XR15 G5 or G6, it is recommended to consider the fixture height, aquarium depth, and total surface area that needs to be illuminated.

A narrower beam can create a much brighter central area and reduce the intensity available on the sides. The fixture position may therefore need to be adjusted after replacing the lenses.

Because PAR values may increase, a gradual adjustment of the fixture power is recommended to avoid a lighting change that is too abrupt for corals already present in the aquarium.

Compatibility with G5 and G6 generations

This kit is compatible with Ecotech Marine Radion XR15 fixtures from the G5 and G6 generations. It makes it possible to change the fixture’s spread characteristics without replacing the entire lighting system.

Ecotech Marine also offers a separate kit for Radion XR30 fixtures. Be sure to select the XR15 version that matches the fixture format being used.
