Koumansetta hectori, formerly known as Amblygobius hectori, is a peaceful benthic goby native to the Indo-Pacific Ocean. It is characterized by an elongated body adorned with long narrow yellow stripes that nicely contrast with its dark background. This fish primarily moves around the bottom of the aquarium, where it spends most of its time sifting through the sand in search of food.
Thanks to its calm nature and low-maintenance diet, Koumansetta hectori is perfectly suited for beginner aquarists. It is suitable from 100 liters and is very useful for the natural maintenance of the substrate. By sifting through the sand, it consumes microalgae, microorganisms, and detritus, helping to keep a clean and lively substrate.
Although it feeds largely by sifting the substrate, a regular supply of frozen food or suitable pellets is recommended to ensure its long-term health.
Koumansetta hectori is a calm, useful, and decorative goby, perfect for structuring the bottom life of a reef aquarium. Easy to acclimate and very pleasant to observe, it is a wise choice for any peaceful population.
