Pomacanthus imperator – Emperor Angelfish from Bali Aquarich
Pomacanthus imperator, also known as the emperor angelfish, is an iconic species in marine aquariums. With its majestic silhouette, white snout, blue body with slightly oblique yellow lines, and elegant swimming, it quickly becomes the centerpiece of a large marine aquarium.
An Impressive Metamorphosis
Like many angelfish, the juvenile Pomacanthus imperator has a completely different coloration than the adult. When young, it displays a deep blue body adorned with white or yellow spiral stripes. As it grows, it gradually adopts its adult appearance, with more linear and contrasting colors that are typical of the species.
A Carefully Acclimated Captive-Bred Fish
Sourced from Bali Aquarich facilities, this specimen is raised in a mesocosm under natural and respectful conditions. Before shipping, each individual is acclimated for 15 days: initially fed with live marine copepods, and then gradually accustomed to frozen brine shrimp and marine pellets. This ensures optimal adaptation in a reef aquarium.
Maintenance Conditions
- Minimum volume: 500 liters recommended in adulthood
- Temperature: 22°C to 26°C
- pH: between 8.2 and 8.4
- Decor: caves, rock ledges, shaded areas
- Moderate to strong water flow
It is essential to provide it with a large swimming space and a well-structured rocky environment to replicate its natural habitat and minimize stress.
Behavior and Compatibility
This fish can be solitary or live in pairs. Although it doesn't defend a specific territory, it can be aggressive towards very similar or subordinate fish. It may also be potentially incompatible with corals, especially if poorly fed or stressed: it might nip at SPS, LPS, and soft coral polyps.
