This Montipora palawanensis is known for its moderate growth and its ability to adapt to moderate variations in water parameters. Its development into thick and irregular plates allows it to create a natural and captivating decor in the reef.
Ideal Conditions for Optimal Coloration
Lighting and Water Flow
To ensure beautiful coloration and even growth, moderate to strong lighting is recommended, with an intensity of 200-250 PAR. Medium to strong water flow is necessary to maintain good tissue oxygenation and prevent sediment accumulation.
Water Parameters
Like all SPS corals, the Montipora palawanensis requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24-26°C
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0 - 8.4
- KH: 7-10 dKH
- Calcium: 400-450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm
- Nitrates: between 2 and 10 mg/L for optimal coloration
- Phosphates: between 0.02 and 0.08 mg/L
