Reef Foundation 3x250 ml Nanokit Red Sea
The Reef Foundation Nanokit by Red Sea includes the entire Reef Foundation program in a 250 ml format. It is intended for maintaining the three fundamental elements essential for the biological and chemical functioning of a reef aquarium: calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity.
These elements form the basis of the skeleton formation of corals and directly influence the stability of pH, the ionic strength of seawater, and the biological processes related to coral growth.
Reef Foundation Program
The Reef Foundation program is designed to maintain the adequate levels of fundamental elements in reef aquariums. Unlike the natural environment, a reef aquarium has a limited water volume, in which these elements are quickly consumed by the corals.
The Reef Foundation supplements are formulated to work together, over the long term, without altering the overall ionic balance of the water.
Role of Fundamental Elements
Calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonates directly contribute to the formation of coral skeletons, which are mostly composed of aragonite. An imbalance in one of these elements can become a limiting factor for coral growth and weaken the skeleton structure.
Maintaining appropriate levels promotes more efficient passive diffusion of ions through coral tissues, thus reducing the energy needed for the calcification processes.
