The Profi Test Phosphate Salifert allows precise monitoring of phosphate (PO4) concentration in a marine aquarium. Monitoring phosphates is essential in reef aquariums to limit the growth of unwanted algae, preserve the coloration of corals, and maintain optimal water quality.
This test works with two solutions and allows for approximately 60 tests. Salifert tests are known for their reliability, ease of use, and excellent value for money.
Caution. Keep out of reach of children.
The PO4-1 reagent causes severe eye irritation. Wear protective gloves and eye protection equipment. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately and carefully with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if possible and continue rinsing. If irritation persists, consult a doctor.
Erroneous results may be obtained when the carbonate hardness is higher than 20 dKH. Under normal marine aquaria conditions, carbonate hardness is generally well below this value.
1. Pour 10 ml of water to be tested into the test vial using the syringe.
2. Add 4 drops of the PO4-1 reagent and stir gently for 10 seconds.
3. Add 1 scoop of PO4-2 powder reagent, then stir gently for 30 seconds.
4. Place the open vial above the colorimetric scale, on a white background, and compare the color obtained. The phosphate concentration is indicated in ppm of phosphate. For a reading in ppm of phosphate-phosphorus, divide the obtained value by 3.
To achieve higher sensitivity, it is possible to double the volume of water tested as well as the amount of reagents. The final value obtained should then be divided by 2.
Regular phosphate monitoring allows for adjustments in filtration, feeding, and water changes to maintain a stable and balanced reef aquarium.
