Colombo Marine Silicate Ex – Elimination of Silicates and Diatoms

Colombo Marine Silicate Ex is a filter media specially designed to quickly eliminate silicates present in seawater. High levels of silicate are the main cause of the appearance of brown algae, known as diatoms. By effectively reducing the concentration of silicates, Silicate Ex prevents their development and allows their gradual disappearance.

Targeted action against brown algae (diatoms)

A silicate content up to 0.50 mg/l is generally acceptable in a marine aquarium. However, to permanently eliminate diatoms, this level must be reduced to 0. Colombo Marine Silicate Ex acts quickly to achieve this goal and restore a stable and healthy environment.

High-efficiency filter media

Silicate Ex is composed of porous spheres offering maximum water flow and high adsorption capacity. This structure allows for rapid and effective elimination of silicates, even in heavily loaded aquariums.

Dosage and Usage

Recommended dosage: 100 ml for 200 liters of seawater.

Place the Silicate Ex in a fine filter bag. Rinse the media thoroughly with cold water to remove any dust traces before use. Then, install the filter bag in a filter or sump area with good water flow.

Once the desired silicate level is reached, remove the Silicate Ex. The media can be stored for later use.

Interaction with Phosphates

Silicate Ex also binds phosphates present in the water. For optimal efficiency, it is recommended to first reduce phosphates using Colombo Phosphate Ex. Similarly, avoid adding any phosphates during the use of Silicate Ex to not diminish its effectiveness.
