Why measure ammonia

Ammonia is produced by fish waste, leftover food, and the decomposition of organic materials. Even in small doses, it can cause stress, gill burns, and lead to fish death. Regular monitoring of NH3 is essential to maintain a healthy and stable aquatic environment.

Instructions for use

• Take 10 ml of aquarium water in a clean test tube
• Add 5 drops of reagent NH3-1 and shake
• Add 5 drops of reagent NH3-2 and shake
• Add 5 drops of reagent NH3-3 and shake
• Wait 15 minutes
• Compare the resulting color with the provided colorimetric chart

The NH3 value corresponds to the closest color observed on the chart. It is recommended to take the reading under indirect light, looking at the test tube from above.

Recommendations

The ammonia test is highly recommended when starting an aquarium, after a significant water change, overfeeding, or the introduction of new fish. In a stabilized aquarium, a monthly check is generally sufficient.
