The Colombo Nitrite Test allows for precise measurement of nitrite (NO2) concentration in freshwater aquariums and garden ponds. Nitrites are highly toxic compounds for fish and should be regularly monitored to ensure a healthy and stable aquatic environment.
This drop test is particularly recommended when starting a new aquarium, after introducing new fish, or in case of a biological imbalance. It quickly detects any dangerous rise in NO2 levels.
Nitrites mainly appear during the nitrogen cycle, especially when starting an aquarium or when biological filtration is insufficient. High concentrations of NO2 can cause respiratory issues, stress, and fish mortality. Frequent monitoring allows for quick action before the situation becomes critical.
For a reliable reading, place the test tube on the color chart and observe the color from above under indirect light. The measured value corresponds to the closest observed color.
The nitrite test should be performed very regularly when starting an aquarium or after any significant change. In a stabilized aquarium, a monthly check is generally sufficient to prevent any imbalance.
