The Colombo Nitrate Test allows for precise measurement of nitrate (NO3) concentration in freshwater aquariums and garden ponds. Nitrates are naturally occurring compounds in water, but their excessive accumulation can cause stress in fish, promote algae growth, and unbalance the ecosystem.
This drop test covers a wide measurement range from 0 to 100 mg/l, enabling precise monitoring both when starting an aquarium and for regular control of an already stabilized tank.
Nitrates are the final product of the nitrogen cycle. Although they are less toxic than ammonia or nitrites, a high level can lead to excessive algae growth, reduced water quality, and chronic stress for fish. Regular monitoring allows for adjustments in water changes and the biological management of the aquarium.
For a reliable reading, place the test tube on the color chart and observe the color from above under indirect light. The measured value corresponds to the closest observed color.
The nitrate test is particularly recommended when starting the aquarium, after introducing new fish, or if algae appears. In a balanced aquarium, monthly monitoring ensures optimal water quality.
