Amphiprion Orange Storm – Orange and White Captive-Bred Clownfish

The Amphiprion ocellaris Orange Storm is a particularly spectacular selectively bred morph of the famous ocellaris clownfish. It stands out for its intense orange coloration combined with the large, irregular white patterns characteristic of the Storm lineage.

This color combination gives it a very different look from the classic ocellaris while retaining the easy-care traits that have made this species so popular in marine and reef aquariums.

An Orange Storm morph developed through multi-generation selection

The Orange Storm morph was developed by the American breeder Sea & Reef Aquaculture. It belongs to the Storm clownfish lineage, alongside notably the Black Storm and Mocha Storm.

To obtain this coloration, Black Storms were crossed with bright orange Amphiprion ocellaris. The breeding program was continued for seven generations in order to replace the Black Storm’s dominant black coloration with orange, while preserving the large irregular white patterns characteristic of the Storm lineage.

The Orange Storm was first offered to aquarists in 2018. It is therefore not a different species, but a selectively bred morph of Amphiprion ocellaris.

A particularly original orange and white coloration

The Orange Storm features a bright orange base color combined with large white areas with irregular outlines. Unlike the relatively regular white bands of a classic ocellaris, the Storm pattern extends over a significant part of the body and gives the fish a much more graphic appearance.

This morph thus retains the immediately recognizable look of the clownfish while offering a particularly original coloration for a reef aquarium.

Behavior and compatibility in a reef aquarium

The Orange Storm’s behavior is comparable to that of a classic Amphiprion ocellaris. It is a relatively peaceful and hardy clownfish, though it can defend its territory, especially once a pair has formed.

It can be kept alone or as a pair and fits perfectly into a reef aquarium with compatible fish.

An anemone is not essential for its care. The Orange Storm can live and thrive perfectly well in a marine aquarium without a host anemone. However, when a compatible anemone is present, it may develop an association with it.

A clownfish bred in captivity

The Orange Storm is a morph developed through captive breeding selection. Its aquaculture origin makes it possible to offer aquarists a clownfish specifically selected for its coloration without resorting to collecting this morph from the wild.

Choosing captive-bred clownfish also contributes to the development of marine aquariums that are more focused on breeding and on keeping species in captivity.

Care and feeding of Amphiprion Orange Storm

The Orange Storm has care requirements very similar to those of a classic Amphiprion ocellaris. It should be kept in a properly cycled marine aquarium with stable parameters and filtration suited to the tank’s population.

As an adult, this morph can reach about 10 cm.

Omnivorous, the Amphiprion Orange Storm accepts a varied diet including:

  • pellets suitable for marine fish;
  • high-quality flakes;
  • frozen mysis;
  • frozen brine shrimp;
  • other balanced foods designed for omnivorous marine fish.

A varied diet helps meet its nutritional needs and supports good overall condition.

Why choose an Amphiprion Orange Storm?

  • Particularly original orange and white coloration
  • Irregular patterns characteristic of the Storm lineage
  • Selective morph of Amphiprion ocellaris
  • Relatively hardy clownfish suited to reef aquariums
  • Can be kept with or without an anemone
  • Easily accepts a variety of foods suitable for marine fish
  • Morph developed exclusively through captive breeding selection

With the Amphiprion Orange Storm, you get the robustness and characteristic behavior of the ocellaris in a much more original morph. Its combination of white and orange, along with its distinctive Storm pattern, makes it a particularly striking clownfish that brings real visual identity to a reef aquarium.
