Hymenocera picta – Captive-bred Harlequin Shrimp in France at Récifathome
Hymenocera picta, also known as the harlequin shrimp, is one of the most fascinating shrimp in marine aquaristics. With its white body adorned with pink and purple patterns, it offers a unique aesthetic in a reef aquarium. This version comes from a controlled French breeding program, ensuring optimal acclimation and no wild collection.
A very specific diet
This delicate crustacean is strictly specialized in eating starfish. It refuses all other food, even standard frozen or live foods. To ensure its well-being, it is essential to regularly provide starfish (e.g. Linckia, Fromia, etc.).
Do not feed this shrimp with other invertebrates or leftover food. Without suitable prey, it will quickly decline. It is therefore essential to make sure you have access to a stable source of live starfish.
Care conditions
- Recommended minimum tank volume: 100 liters
- Ideal temperature: 24°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Moderate water flow and rocky decor
- Quiet area with recommended hiding places
