Reef Kalkwasser is a high-purity calcium hydroxide designed for preparing limewater solutions used in reef aquariums. It helps maintain calcium levels close to those of natural seawater while increasing pH, without directly impacting carbonate alkalinity.
Type: calcium hydroxide for reef aquariums.
Net weight: 250 g.
Usage: preparation of kalkwasser solution.
Action: provides calcium and supports pH.
Kalkwasser solutions prepared from Reef Kalkwasser directly maintain calcium and indirectly support carbonate alkalinity. Their effectiveness mainly depends on the aquarium's evaporation rate and CO2 concentration.
When these parameters do not fully meet the system's needs, additional calcium or alkalinity can be provided using suitable products, without directly mixing with the kalkwasser solution.
Reef Kalkwasser is particularly suitable for experienced aquarists seeking an economical and precise method of calcium management. Alternative methods may be preferred by users looking for a simpler or less demanding solution.
Never add Reef Kalkwasser directly to the aquarium.
Add 3 g to 4 L of freshwater and mix until dissolved. For a fully saturated solution, use 6 g per 4 L of pure water.
Distribute the solution slowly into the aquarium, preferably by drip.
Regularly monitor pH and carbonate alkalinity and adjust the addition rate to maintain a stable pH between 8.3 and 8.4.
Adding 4 L of a saturated solution to 150 L of water increases calcium by approximately 24 mg/L.
Use only the clear part of the solution. Never introduce undissolved material into the aquarium.
Keep the container tightly closed and limit the solution's contact with air to prevent the formation of calcium carbonate.
The excess undissolved calcium hydroxide that settles at the bottom of the container typically does not dissolve and should be discarded. Over time, it reacts with CO2 in the water to form insoluble calcium carbonate.
