Colombo Marine Silicate Ex is a high-performance filter media designed to quickly eliminate silicates present in seawater. Silicates are the main source of brown algae development, known as diatoms. By removing these silicates, Silicate Ex prevents their proliferation and allows their gradual disappearance.
A silicate concentration of up to 0.50 mg/l can be tolerated in a marine aquarium. However, to permanently eliminate diatoms, this value must be lowered to 0. Colombo Marine Silicate Ex acts quickly to restore a stable and balanced marine environment.
Silicate Ex is composed of porous spheres offering maximum water flow and excellent removal capacity. This structure optimizes the contact between the water and the media, ensuring fast and effective absorption of silicates, even in heavily loaded aquariums.
Recommended dosage: 100 ml for 200 liters of seawater.
Before use, thoroughly rinse the Silicate Ex with cold water to remove any dust residue. Then place the media in a fine filter bag and install it in an area with good water flow, such as a sump or filtration compartment.
When the desired silicate level is reached, remove the Silicate Ex. The media can be stored and reused later.
Silicate Ex also binds phosphates present in the water. For optimal efficiency, it's recommended to first reduce phosphates using Colombo Phosphate Ex. It is also advised not to add phosphates while using Silicate Ex to preserve its effectiveness.
