Colombo Aqua KH Test – KH Test for Freshwater Aquarium

The Colombo KH test is specially designed to accurately measure the carbonate hardness (KH) of water in freshwater aquariums. KH plays an essential role in pH stability due to its buffering effect, ensuring a healthy environment for fish and aquatic plants.

This drop test is both reliable, accurate, and easy to use. It is perfectly suited for aquarists who wish to regularly monitor their water, especially in aquariums containing sensitive species like Discus.

Features

  • Type of test: colorimetric drop test
  • Measurement of carbonate hardness (KH) in °DH
  • Up to 40 tests per kit
  • Suitable for freshwater aquariums

Advantages

  • Precise and reproducible measurement of KH
  • Clear reading thanks to color change
  • Easy to use with illustrated instructions
  • Cost-effective solution for regular monitoring

Why Measure KH

Carbonate hardness is a key parameter to maintain a stable pH in the aquarium. A KH that is too low can lead to significant pH fluctuations, harmful to fish. By regularly checking the KH, you preserve the biological balance of the tank and reduce stress for its inhabitants.

Instructions for Use

  • Take 5 ml of aquarium water in a clean test tube
  • Add 1 drop of KH reagent and shake the test tube
  • The sample turns light blue or yellow if the KH is less than 1°DH
  • Then add drops one by one, shaking after each addition
  • When the color permanently turns from blue to yellow, stop the test

The total number of drops added corresponds directly to the KH value in °DH. For example, 3 drops equal a KH of 3°DH.

Recommendations

It is recommended to test KH regularly, especially when starting an aquarium, after significant water changes, or in the event of pH fluctuations. A monthly check is generally sufficient for a stabilized aquarium.
