Why Measure GH

Total hardness directly influences the well-being of fish and the development of plants. An appropriate GH promotes stable water, limits certain imbalances, and contributes to water clarity. Incorrect values can cause stress in fish or slow plant growth.

Instructions for Use

• Collect 5 ml of aquarium water in a clean test tube
• Add 1 drop of GH reagent and shake the test tube
• The sample normally turns red; if it turns green, the GH is below 1°DH
• Then add drops one by one, shaking after each addition
• When the color permanently changes from red to green, stop the test

The total number of drops added directly corresponds to the GH value in °DH. For example, 4 drops equal a GH of 4°DH.

Recommendations

It is recommended to test GH regularly, especially when introducing new fish, making significant water changes, or starting an aquarium. A monthly check is generally sufficient for a stabilized tank.
