Chrysiptera parasema, commonly known as the yellowtail damselfish, is a small, lively, and robust marine fish, highly valued in reef aquariums. It features a deep blue oval body, contrasted by a bright yellow tail, giving it a look that is both simple and spectacular.
This species naturally thrives near reef bottoms in small groups. Territorial and sometimes lively, Chrysiptera parasema is a protogynous hermaphrodite, which means that the female can become male in the absence of a dominant male. It is recommended to form a group of at least 5 individuals to establish a balanced hierarchy and limit aggression.
Coexistence with other territorial species is possible, but it requires a well-arranged aquarium, rich in rocks and retreat areas so each species can define its territory.
Not very demanding, the Chrysiptera parasema quickly adapts to dry food, while enjoying a regular supply of live or frozen food.
Chrysiptera parasema is an essential damselfish for adding contrast, movement, and a touch of energy to any reef aquarium. Its territorial behavior, liveliness, and remarkable color make it a fish as captivating as it is resilient.
