Dascyllus melanurus, commonly known as the blacktail damselfish, is a species native to the Western Pacific Ocean. It is distinguished by a silver-white oval body crossed by three wide black bands, the last of which completely covers the tail, giving it its name.
In its natural habitat, the Dascyllus melanurus thrives in groups structured around Acropora colonies, where it finds refuge and food. In an aquarium, it is essential to keep it in a group of at least 5 individuals to establish a stable hierarchy and limit internal aggression.
This fish is robust, active, and sometimes territorial. It can coexist with other non-aggressive reef species, but relationships between multiple Dascyllus or similar species should be monitored. Tense intraspecific relationships should be avoided in small volumes.
