Paracanthurus hepatus – Iconic Blue Tang for Reef Aquariums
Paracanthurus hepatus, known as the blue tang or "Dory," is one of the most popular marine fish in aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific, it captivates with its vibrant intense blue and yellow colors, its characteristic palette-shaped black line, and its exceptional longevity that can exceed 20 years in captivity.
A Sociable, Active, and Easy-to-Observe Fish
This tang is a very sociable fish, tolerating both its own kind and fish from other species. It naturally moves alone or in groups and is constantly active, swimming continuously through the decor in search of algae or food. Its lively behavior makes it an essential visual asset in any large reef tank.
Maintenance Conditions
- Recommended minimum volume: 500 liters
- Temperature: between 23°C and 27°C
- pH: between 8.2 and 8.4
- Decor: rich in hiding spots with large free swimming areas
- Life span in aquarium: up to 20 years
Behavior and Compatibility
Paracanthurus hepatus is peaceful with other fish and very suitable for a community aquarium. It can coexist with many invertebrates and corals. It is possible to introduce several individuals provided they are acclimated together. Our specimens are kept by size in the same tanks to facilitate their introduction in groups.

- Occasional brine shrimp and mysis

Super emballage , comme d'habitude . Petit hepatus juvénile arrivé en forme , un peu palichon du voyage , et dans la journée à repris ses belles couleurs . Pas du tout timide, mange super bien . Merci

superbe poisson arrivé avec la moitié du corp tout blanc mais après 30mn caché et la tête dans le sable est ressorti avec sa belle couleur et très en forme merci recifathome.
