EHEIM Karbon Activated is an adsorbing filter media designed to eliminate dissolved harmful substances in freshwater. Adsorption involves binding pollutants to the surface of the activated carbon, unlike absorption.
This activated carbon binds the chlorine from tap water as well as medication residues, and traces of detergents, pesticides, dyes, and other chemical substances. This version comes with a mesh bag (Netbag) for use in the filter.
EHEIM Karbon Activated is particularly suitable for clarifying the water during the aquarium's start-up phase. Chlorine from tap water and other chemical substances introduced during the aquarium setup are reliably deposited.
The activated carbon is used for a limited duration, approximately 4 weeks, in layered filtration after the mechanical filter material (e.g., EHEIM MECH or MECHpro) and the biological material (e.g., EHEIM SUBSTRATpro), in the provided mesh bag.
- Binds chlorine and other chemical substances
- Use, for example, after a new setup or medication treatment
- Use for a limited time (approx. 4 weeks)
- Suitable for freshwater only
| Type of filter media | Adsorbing activated carbon |
| Volume | 2 liters |
| Packaging | With mesh bag (Netbag) |
| Compatibility | Freshwater aquariums only |
| Recommended usage duration | Approximately 4 weeks |
Use adsorbing filter media only for a few weeks. Since pollutants only adhere to the surface, they can dissolve again after some time and be reintroduced into the water. Regular replacement is necessary. Adsorption filtering is generally useful only during the aquarium's start-up phase or after medication use.
