Monacanthus chinensis – Green-Spotted Filefish
The Monacanthus chinensis, also known as the green-spotted filefish, is an original and peaceful fish, perfect for aquarists looking for a useful and discreet companion. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, it is distinguished by its flattened body adorned with small green spots and its characteristic slow swimming.
An Ally Against Algae
The Monacanthus chinensis is renowned for its ability to consume certain filamentous algae, as well as cyanobacteria in some cases. It can thus contribute to the natural maintenance of your reef aquarium, while adding an aesthetic touch with its unique appearance.
Peaceful and Unique Behavior
This fish has a calm, sometimes shy demeanor. It moves slowly in the aquarium, blending in with the surroundings. Its swimming is typical of filefish, giving the impression that it is floating or gliding above the substrate. It is generally compatible with other peaceful species, provided there is enough space and hiding spots.
