Aluterus scriptus – Scribbled Filefish
Aluterus scriptus, nicknamed the scribbled filefish, is a large fish with an elongated body and a distinctive appearance. It stands out with a silvery body dotted with bright blue spots and lines, resembling pencil scribbles. This unique appearance, combined with its peaceful and observant behavior, makes it a captivating fish for large volume aquariums.
A spectacular fish for very large tanks
The scribbled filefish can reach up to 1 meter in the wild, but is generally smaller in captivity. It requires a tank of at least 1000 liters with large areas of open swimming space. Very calm despite its size, it often appears curious and visually interacts with its environment.
Behavior and compatibility
An opportunistic omnivore, Aluterus scriptus feeds on small crustaceans, sponges, polyps, and algae. It can coexist with many similarly sized marine fish, but it is not compatible with mixed reef tanks rich in corals, which it might pick at.
Maintenance conditions
