Gobiodon histrio, also known as the striped coral goby, is a small reef fish with a unique appearance. It has an elongated green body decorated with fine orange stripes. Its appearance can change according to its environment, thanks to a remarkable ability to change color similar to a chameleon.
Like most gobies of the genus Gobiodon, G. histrio lives in close association with branching hard corals, such as Acropora. It finds refuge, security, and territory there. Its sedentary behavior makes it an easy fish to observe, often perched in the same spot for several hours.
With its small size, Gobiodon histrio is perfect for small reef aquariums starting at 60 liters. It is very undemanding, robust, and poses no danger to corals or invertebrates. It's an excellent choice for beginner aquarists who want to introduce an original fish into a vibrant and natural setting.
It feeds on small prey and biofilm in the aquarium. A complementary supply of finely calibrated food is recommended, especially in a young tank.
Gobiodon histrio is a small chameleon jewel of the reef, peaceful and fascinating. It will bring an original and functional touch to any reef aquarium structured around branching corals.
