Ptereleotris evides – Three-color Goby for Reef Aquarium

Ptereleotris evides, also known as the Three-color Eleotris Fish, is a species with a calm demeanor and a slender body that allows it to swim elegantly in open water. Native to the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific, this fish is highly appreciated in reef aquariums for its graceful appearance and contrasting colors.

Its body is light beige at the front, gradually turning black towards the back, with bluish or purplish reflections depending on the lighting. This subtle gradient makes it a soberly colored fish but very aesthetic in a well-lit aquarium.

Behavior and Compatibility

The Ptereleotris evides is a peaceful, sociable, and minimally territorial fish. It can be kept alone, in pairs, or in groups. In a well-arranged reef aquarium, it coexists easily with corals, invertebrates, and non-aggressive fish.

This goby likes to swim in open water but takes refuge in cavities or under rocks when stressed. It is therefore important to provide it with retreat areas and hiding places. When comfortable, it exhibits a pleasant group behavior, especially when food is nearby.

Care Conditions

  • Recommended minimum volume: 150 liters
  • Temperature: 24°C to 27°C
  • pH: 8.0 to 8.4
  • Decor: live rocks, free swimming areas, numerous hiding spots
  • Water flow: moderate to strong

Feeding

The Ptereleotris evides is carnivorous and readily accepts:

  • Live or frozen brine shrimp
  • Finely chopped mysis, krill
  • Plankton and marine micro-foods
  • Pellets suitable for small marine carnivores

A varied and high-quality diet will enhance its colors and vitality.

Why Choose Ptereleotris evides?

  • Elegant fish with smooth swimming
  • Peaceful and sociable behavior
  • Compatible with corals and invertebrates
  • Easy to maintain in groups in a reef aquarium
  • Original color with a gradient from beige to black

Ptereleotris evides is the perfect choice for aquarists looking for a peaceful, aesthetic, and active reef fish. Its presence adds movement to open water while maintaining excellent compatibility with the rest of the reef population.
