Valenciennea strigata – Bluecheek Goby
Valenciennea strigata, also known as the bluecheek goby, is an elegant and functional species in a reef aquarium. This goby is distinguished by its white body, bright yellow head, and a thin blue line under each eye, which gives it its common name.
A useful and visually remarkable fish
Like other gobies of the Valenciennea genus, the Valenciennea strigata sifts through the sand to extract microorganisms, while ensuring the natural cleaning of the substrate. It is not only aesthetically pleasing but also very useful in a reef tank.
It builds a protective burrow using sand and small fragments of coral. For this, it is essential to provide it with a soft sandy bottom. This goby thrives particularly well when introduced in pairs.
Maintenance conditions
- Minimum recommended volume: 200 liters
- Temperature: 24°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Substrate: fine sand + coral fragments
- Water flow: moderate
- Compatibility: peaceful, best kept in pairs
Why choose Valenciennea strigata?
- Excellent substrate cleaner
- Peaceful and aesthetically pleasing reef fish
- Easily recognizable blue streak under the eye and yellow head
- Ideal for a community aquarium with a sandy bottom
- Preferable in pairs for better acclimatization
Valenciennea strigata is an ideal reef goby for aquarists seeking a natural sand cleaner with understated elegance. Best kept in pairs for even more interesting observation.

By SYLVAIN P. the 12/07/2021
Magnifique !
Arrivé ce matin , très bien emballé . L'eau était encore a bonne température .
